Portoferraio is the main town and port of the island of Elba, located in the Tuscany region of Italy. Set in a protected natural bay, the town impresses with its Renaissance fortifications, built by Cosimo I de’ Medici in the 16th century, and its historical and maritime charm. With narrow streets, pastel-colored buildings and spectacular views of the Tyrrhenian Sea, Portoferraio retains an authentic Italian atmosphere. It is also known for its connection with Napoleon Bonaparte, who lived here in exile in 1814–1815;
