Scala dei Turchi-Sicily, Italy

The Scala dei Turchi is a famous limestone cliff located on the southern coast of Sicily, near the town of Realmonte. Its name, which translates to “Stair of the Turks,” comes from a legend that Turkish pirates once used this area as a landing spot due to the natural white steps that rise dramatically from the sea. The cliffs are primarily made of limestone and clay, and erosion has shaped them into unique, stair-like formations that stand out against the deep blue of the Mediterranean Sea. The Scala dei Turchi is a popular tourist destination, not only because of its natural beauty but also because it has been featured in several films, including the Italian drama La meglio gioventù (2003).
